Screen printing produces a smooth, precise, and modern finish. Flock printing, on the other hand, has a velvety, slightly raised surface and a softer, more textile-like feel.
From our experience, we’re very familiar with this trade-off. One customer always insists on two-color flock printing, even for the very fine text in his slogan beneath the logo. That’s exactly what makes it a real challenge. Small letters, narrow lines, and two-color elements are significantly more difficult to weed and position precisely in flock printing.
In such cases, flex printing is often the better solution. It reproduces fine contours more accurately and produces a smoother, more professional print result.
How does flex transfer printing work on textiles?
In this transfer printing process, production begins with a suitable print file. A vector graphic is ideal because it allows for clean lines and precisely scalable contours. The design is cut from a flex film in a mirror-reversed orientation. Afterward, all excess film is removed. This step is called weeding.
The transfer film is then positioned on the fabric and bonded using a heat press under heat, pressure, and a specified pressing time. Cotton, polyester, blended fabrics, viscose, and nylon react differently to heat, pressure, and film adhesion. Therefore, you should check in advance whether the fabric, film, and design are technically compatible.
