Private Label MFG: What information must be available for textile production?

Why “A green T-shirt” is not a basis for an offer

In practice, we experience it regularly: companies ask a private label MFG Textilproduktion with statements such as “We would like to have a green T-shirt produced” or “What does a hoody cost?”. This is not enough for a reliable calculation.

Textile production is a technically precise process. Material, grammage, cutting, finishing and quantities have a significant impact on price, minimum quantities and delivery times. According to an analysis by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, up to 80 % of a textile’s environmental impact occurs in the design and material phase – early specifications are therefore crucial for costs, sustainability and quality.

Without concrete information, neither a serious price indication nor production planning is possible. In addition, we only prepare quotations for tradespeople, companies and associations – not for private individuals without a registered business.

We need this information for a private label MFG

We need structured information so that we can calculate and produce your collection precisely. The more precise the briefing, the more efficient the process.

1. product definition

  • Product type (T-shirt, hoody, polo, etc.)

  • Target group (women, men, unisex)

  • Fit (Regular, Oversized, Slim)

  • Planned total quantity

2. style definition

  • Technical sketches (front and rear view)

  • Detailed drawings (collar shape, cuffs, seams, pocket solutions)

  • Alternatively: an existing original sample for analysis

  • Size charts or reference sizes

An original sample speeds up development considerably, as proportions, processing and details are clearly comprehensible. Without a clear style definition, there are unnecessary queries, correction loops and additional sample costs.

3. material description

  • Fabric type (e.g. single jersey, pique, poplin or French terry)

  • Material composition (e.g. 95 % organic cotton, 5 % elastane)

  • Grammage (e.g. 200 g/m² or 320 g/m²)

  • Certification request (GOTS, GRS, Green Button)

4. color and design specifications

  • Exact Pantone color definition

  • Placement of print or embroidery

  • Size of print or embroidery
  • Printing technology (screen printing, transfer printing, embroidery, etc.)

  • Quantity per color

5. size range

  • Planned size range (XS-3XL)

  • Quantities per size

What you gain from a precise briefing

A structured specification sheet is not a bureaucratic burden, but an economic advantage. Studies by the McKinsey Global Fashion Index show that structured product development and clear specifications can contribute significantly to reducing development times.

Your advantages at a glance:

  • Faster quotation preparation

  • Realistic price indication

  • Reliable delivery times

  • Reduced sample costs

  • fewer renegotiations

  • Higher product quality

Precise technical specifications are crucial, especially for productions in Portugal, Poland or Turkey, as pattern development, fabric procurement and finishing are planned in parallel. Unclear specifications lead to delays or additional costs.

Why a rough price estimate is not reliable

We cannot answer the question “What does a hoody cost?” without a specification. A hoody can:

  • be 280 g/m² or 400 g/m² in weight

  • consist of conventional cotton or organic cotton

  • have a brushed inside or French Terry

  • can be embellished with embroidery, screen printing or transfer printing

  • can be produced in 100 or 5,000 units

The quality of the fabric alone has a significant impact on the price. According to Textile Exchange, organic cotton has a significantly lower environmental impact than conventional cotton – but is more expensive to buy.

A serious calculation takes into account material, labor costs, certifications, logistics and finishing. That is why we prepare individual quotations based on specific data – exclusively for commercial clients.

Sustainability can be planned

If you want a certified private label MFG, these requirements must already be defined in the briefing. Certifications influence the choice of fabric, production sites and documentation requirements.

Relevant standards:

  • GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) – defines ecological and social criteria along the entire supply chain

  • GRS (Global Recycled Standard) – regulates the use of recycled materials

  • Green Button – government seal for sustainable textiles

These standards require audited supply chains, documented material flows and certified production partners. This is why we produce our private label collections primarily in Portugal, Poland and Turkey with selected, auditable companies.

Frequently asked questions about Private Label MFG

From what quantity is production possible?
This depends on the product and material. Custom-made products start at 100-300 pieces per model.

Can I receive an offer without a trade?
No. We produce exclusively for companies, associations and commercial customers.

How long does a private label production take?
Depending on the complexity, between 6 and 12 weeks after the order is placed, including the sample phase.

Is sustainable production significantly more expensive?
Certified materials are more expensive to purchase, but offer long-term image and quality benefits.

Is a mood board enough for the calculation?
A mood board helps with orientation, but does not replace a technical specification.
